Finally, one of the most radical startups on this year’s list is Monolith AI, a London-based startup that wants to use AI to dramatically accelerate product development. To accomplish this, it is developing an online platform that helps to simplify data access, provide context on collected data, facilitate decision making, and ultimately, help predict future product behaviour.

Using data science and machine learning to improve engineering
When engineers embark on a new project, such as building a car or aeroplane, they begin with virtual designs and simulations before they move on to physical prototypes and tests. Dr Ahlfeld came up with new software to help engineers interpret their simulations and aid their decision making, meaning more information can be gained from this virtual stage in a shorter time.

1.9m from Pentech and Stanford Angels
Technology start-up Monolith AI, which has developed the first AI assistant for engineers has announced it has raised £1.9 million led by Pentech Ventures with participation from Stanford Angels of the UK, Ascension Ventures and Charlie Songhurst.

Monolith founder selected as one the top 10 innovators under 35 in Germany
Monolith was founded on the basis of Richard's PhD thesis at Imperial College London where he worked with McLaren, Rolls Royce and NASA to re-engineer the way engineers design, simulate and build advanced products.

A PhD student has won a prize in recognition of his all-round contribution to College life over the past year.
Richard Ahlfeld, who is studying a PhD in the Department of Aeronautics, was named winner of the John & Frances Jones Prize. The award recognises the postgraduate student who has made the best all-round contribution.
